VINCENTAS GEČAS
Vincentas Gečas (1931 - 2020) is a recognised Lithuanian painter, pedagogue, professor. He is one of the most prominent Lithuanian painters of the 1960s and 1970s and considered as one of the most talented colourists in contemporary Lithuanian painting. Gečas studied at the Vilnius State Academy of Fine Arts (now the Vilnius Academy of Arts) from 1951-1957. Since 1957 lecturer at the Lithuanian Art Institute, 1969-1974 vice-rector, 1974-1988 rector. In 1980
he was awarded the title of professor. Since 1989 lecturer
at Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute (since 1997 Šiauliai University), professor of the Painting Department
of the Faculty of Arts.
In 1974, he was awarded the title of Lithuanian Meritorious Artist. In 1968 he was awarded the Lithuanian State Prize,
in 1974 he was awarded the title of Lithuanian Meritorious Artist, and in 1981 he was awarded the title of Lithuanian People's Artist.
Vincentas Gečas`s works are preserved in the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, private collections, etc.
